Area Rugs
This captivating rug takes its inspiration from an unusual 17th Century Dragon Carpet made in the Azerbaijan region of the Islamic empire. Originally in the James F. Ballard Collection and now in a museum, it reflects carpet-weaving traditions of villages throughout the Caucasus. While rugs from royal workshops typically had flowing floral patterns, provincial weavings were more strongly geometric as seen here in the motif of highly stylized dragons. The original is boldly colored in reds, blues and tan. The modern version is reimagined in sparkling tones of sea glass with highlights in sunlight and flame, creating an almost translucent vision of luminescent color.
Truly timeless, these designs date back as far as the 15th Century and have graced the palaces of ancient aristocracy and royalty. Nourison's talented designers and master craftsmen have reimagined those precious heirlooms – now only seen in museums and private collections – reproducing their spectacular detail and color to enrich the homes of today. In depth of color, detail of design, and pure artistry, the Timeless Collection recreates the opulence of the past for today's discerning decorators.
